Journey Through Life With the Wisdom of the Forest
At 森の心・人の心 – Journey Through Life With the Wisdom of the Forest, respect is more than a virtue—it’s a way of life. Informed by the principles of Shinrin Yoku, Kokoro, and Enso, respect guides our every action and interaction, shaping our approach to both people and the natural world.
Respect, as it relates to Shinrin Yoku, is inherently about recognizing and honoring our deep interconnectedness with nature. It’s about acknowledging the inherent worth and sacredness of the forest and its inhabitants. During our training sessions, we encourage participants to slow down and truly see, hear, and feel the forest around them. It is through these mindful and deliberate engagements with nature that respect is cultivated—respect not only for nature but for oneself.
Kokoro, representing the heart, mind, and spirit, adds another layer to this understanding. It reminds us of the harmony that can be achieved when these three elements are aligned. As we respect the needs and realities of our own hearts, minds, and spirits, we are better equipped to extend that respect to others. Respect, in this sense, fosters mutual understanding and kindness—creating a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
Enso, a symbol representing the moment when the mind is free to let the body create, illustrates the respect for the creative process. It symbolizes the acceptance of imperfection and the celebration of individuality and authenticity. In our trainings, we encourage participants to embrace their unique experiences, perspectives, and contributions. This respect for individuality strengthens our collective experience, making us stronger, more diverse, and more vibrant.
In a world where respect can sometimes feel scarce, the practice of Shinrin Yoku at 森の心・人の心 offers a respite—a space where respect for oneself, for others, and for the natural world is not just taught but lived. We invite you to join us in this journey of cultivating respect, taking the lessons learned within the tranquility of the forest and carrying them into your everyday lives.
