Meet our Shinrin Yoku Guide - Karrisa

Karissa Ihilani Steele, MA, is an Ecopsychologist, Certified Shinrin Yoku Guide, and Intuitive Healer. She holds a Master’s Degree in Depth Psychology with an emphasis on Ecopsychology, Liberation Psychology, Community Psychology, and Indigenous Psychologies from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Karissa is the CEO of Rewilding Wellness LLC and has been published for her work on Mauna Kea in Hawai’i. She created Plant Baths, an interspecies sound immersion involving music from plants, humans, and instruments.

Karissa specializes in nature-centered healing for women who have experienced trauma, families or individuals experiencing loss, group mediation using Indigenous-based council, and people seeking their life purpose. Her Native Hawaiian and Swedish heritage, along with her extensive knowledge and empathetic abilities, allow her to create unique and transformative experiences that connect people to nature physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

“There aren’t enough words to describe how precious and potent this training program was for me. Not only did the training open up possibilities for my professional career as an Ecopsychologist, but for the caretaking of my soul as well. The weekly invitations (beautifully curated) asked me to explore the depths of my connection with nature and allowed me to see myself and my purpose in a whole new light.

This course (and my inspiring cohort) pushed me to begin a practice that I have not had the courage to do before. After the program, I feel competent, prepared, encouraged, supported and connected to begin my own Shinrin Yoku retreats and private practice. I truly feel that within the last 15 weeks, I have created a wonderful thing out of nothing. I went from having an interest in Shinrin Yoku to creating a website and leading others into natural spaces on my own. For this, I am truly grateful.

I will miss the time spent in class bouncing ideas off of each other and sharing intimate stories of the forest together. I will miss the compassionate leadership of our instructor, Milena. But i know that the community that was fostered throughout the program will remain for the rest of my life.”
