Meet our Shinrin Yoku Guide - Erica

For Erica, yoga and forest bathing are paths on the same journey toward health and well-being. Her mission is to offer various pathways for reconnecting with oneself and the natural world through the practice of forest bathing and yoga. With over 20 years of yoga practice, Erica’s love affair with yoga began with her first Warrior Pose, leading her to become a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher after training at Soma Yoga Institute. Despite initial doubts, she now believes yoga is for everyone, creating an inclusive and empowering space for all. Living in Del Norte County for over 22 years, Erica’s deep connection with nature grew through experiences like beach bonfires, swimming, kayaking on the Smith River, and walking through ancient Redwood forests. These experiences inspired her to pursue certification in forest bathing, completing a 5-month Shinrin Yoku Guide training with Milena Guziak and The Mindful Tourist & Shinrin Yoku Association. Erica is passionate about sharing the benefits of forest bathing with both visitors and local residents, offering sessions that provide renewal, reduced stress, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

“The more I delved into the practice of Shinrin Yoku, the more I delved into myself.  Being in the forest in this way was such a time and place of reflection for me. It was also the time and place where I learned to be a guide and let the forest also give a gift to others.  It was an important lesson to be able to step back and just create a container for whatever experience the forest has to offer.

I had the opportunity to guide a few couples and the connections they made to the forest and each other were inspiring.  I definitely see this as a possible direction.  I really think I will make space for whoever flows my way.

I feel proud of myself for laying the groundwork…If you build it they will come.  The first step was embarking on this journey with the Mindful Tourist and Milena!  Throughout the course, I found that the next lesson led me closer and closer to being prepared to arrive here in this moment with Milena being my constant supporter preparing me to leave the nest.

Her support, caring, authenticity, and smile have left an indelible mark on my soul!

As I approach my final week of class, I am a bit nostalgic, but know that we will meet again in the forest!

Thank you  Milena for providing an amazing opportunity to this middle-aged mom from the Redwoods.”
