Journey Through Life With the Wisdom of the Forest
Martina Dittmar lives in Surry, Maine, with her husband, 9-year-old son, pets, and garden. Her deep connection to nature began in childhood, spent in New Hampshire collecting wildflowers, acorns, caterpillars, and toads, and enjoying long walks in the woods. Hiking has been a lifelong passion, with Martina exploring trails in California during high school and backpacking across Europe through Greece, Ireland, and Spain.
Her connection to plants and nature led her to study biology in college. Throughout her many relocations—living in 22 places from ages 6 to 32—plants remained her main companions. Martina also found a connection to the earth through cooking, enjoying the smells, textures, colors, and creativity of preparing food.
For the past 15 years, Martina has settled in Surry, Maine, where she enjoys gardening, yoga, and meditation. Her yoga and meditation retreats inspired her to sit in nature more often, leading to the creation of poetry and paintings and the development of her intuition. Despite the challenge of feeling overwhelmed and focusing too much on completing tasks, Martina finds joy in pausing to notice the beauty of nature in her garden and the forest. Moments of stillness and silence have become her main source of joy.
Martina holds numerous certifications, including a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master’s in Teaching, multiple yoga teacher trainings, and a Forest Bathing Certification from The Mindful Tourist. She is also a Registered Maine Guide in Recreation and Wilderness First Aid Certified.
Her education and training include:

“It was such an amazing experience to learn the art of being a Shinrin Yoku guide with Milena. Her view of nature and the forest is very aligned to mine. I truly looked forward to seeing her each week for the class to hear her insights.
The invitations she taught us were so lovely and creative. Even though the course was done online, I felt held by her words and energy. She truly put her heart and soul into the course, and it’s obvious in how thorough and well planned it is. There’s so much information that I hope to continue diving into.
Even though I had prior experience as a guide and meditation teacher, the training with The Mindful Tourist brought everything together for me. I was able to complete practical aspects of my business during the course such as: my website, brochures, nature connection cards, and intake/feedback forms. It was alot of work, but it was well worth it!
This work of being a nature connection guide is literally my dream come true. In the course I was truly excited about making that dream become a reality. Milena was a wonderful support and positive cheerleader encorugaing me the entire time I was working on building my business. I am so grateful!”
