Meet our Shinrin Yoku Guide - Tracey

Former lawyer, Tracey now embraces a multifaceted career as an organic farmer, yoga instructor, holistic nutritionist, lifestyle and wellness coach, and most recently, our  Shinrin Yoku Guide. Based in Victoria, BC, Canada, Tracey shares her diverse expertise and passion for wellness with her community. She also offers Shinrin-yoku wellness retreats at an intimate, forested retreat center on the tiny living jewel known as Hornby Island, BC.

For Tracey, participating in nature means feeling a sense of being a part OF the natural world rather than apart FROM it. More than merely observing the natural world, she believes in experiencing how an intimate and purposeful connection with the outer landscape can profoundly affect one’s inner landscape. This harmonizing experience fosters a sense of belonging and requires deep engagement and presence with natural spaces. Simple actions, such as leaving cell phones and cameras behind, entering the forest with deep respect, minimal speaking, walking softly and silently, breathing consciously, and opening each sense to focus on the present moment, are essential to this connection.

Tracey is also excited to contribute as a chair member of Shinrin Yoku Association, to the Shinrin Yoku Journal. Her responsibilities will include writing reviews of books, podcasts, films, and other relevant content for submission.

If you are in Victoria BC, Canada and wish to be guided by her, here is her email address: traceycook.shinrin-yoku@shaw.ca

“Thank you Milena for your compassionate and insightful guidance during our training.  The meditations and weekly invitations you offered throughout the course were invaluable and so delicious – and each week they helped me to connect with the best energies in and around me, affirming time and again that this path is a good one for me.

I also appreciated the care and attention you invested in reading and responding to our assignments.  Your challenges and reflections helped me to put words on what I’ve always felt, but never quite articulated: “in Nature, I simply feel understood. Never judged, simply accepted, without conditions, loved, held, supported.”

In this training, my appreciation for the splendour of natural world only deepened.  My senses became – and continue to become – more refined.  Every day, I notice myself noticing more, and this awareness makes me fall more deeply in love with Life and the ways it flows and expresses.  I feel happier.  Grounded.  More confident in the way of Nature, the way of this practice, the way of Me as a Shinrin Yoku guide.

Very practically speaking, I resonate strongly with the Code of Conduct & Guidelines of the Shinrin Yoku Association.  Thank you for this guidance about upholding professionalism and compassion in guiding, maintaining participant safety and environmental integrity, and promoting access and inclusivity as we guides play our part in contributing to personal, collective, and planetary wellness.

I don’t know how my work as a Guide will unfold just yet, but the mystery will unfold.  It’s already starting, and I’m honoured to accept each opportunity to bring people back to nature in this elegant way, back to the wildness within and around, for the good of all beings. “
